Jamie Lee Curtis Will Lobby to Play Doctor Kureha in One Piece Netflix Live-Action.
In a recent Instagram post, Jamie Lee Curtis announced her formal intent to campaign for the role of Dr.Kureha in the second season of Netflix’s One Piece. After a couple years of fan campaigns and showing up on fan casting rosters, the Halloween actress will see what can be done once the SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild strikes have concluded, so as not to cross the picket line and become a scab.
Curtis has been a known One Piece fan for years, mentioning it in interviews and panels, and while her dream role would be the character Nico Robin, Dr.Kureha is a more fitting cast for her, and even received a recommendation for her to play the character from her daughter, Ruby.

The post was accompanied by fan art of her as the character, a collage of her and some One Piece images, and an article snippet discussing the possibility. In the comments of the post, one of the live-action adaptation showrunners, Matt Owens, replied “Mommy dearest, that’s why we sent you that figure!
No need to lobby. Once we get what we deserve and get back to work let’s talk!” Curtis replied to his comment with a clip of her in an interview during Halloween Kills press junket discussing the fan casting and humoring the notion of the campaign. This back and forth almost assuredly confirms she’ll be cast in the role, but we will have to wait and see for the strikes to end first.

Dr.Kureha will play an important role during One Piece’s second season. During the Alabasta Saga’s penultimate arc, Drum Island, the Straw Hats will meet Kureha and her mentee, Tony Tony Chopper. Kureha serves as Chopper’s guardian and instructor in practicing medicine, similar to the relationship between Zeff and Sanji in the first season. We can’t wait to see if this fan casting will come true, so we just need to be patient for more information about the second season to come out after the strikes end. One Piece is now streaming on Netflix.
