Hannah Waddingham: Home For Christmas Special is just what we needed this year. This special dropped on Apple TV Plus on Wednesday and it sure did not disappoint. Hannah Waddingham recorded this Christmas special in the Andy Williams or Bing Crosby style. It left me with all the feels.
Ring in the holidays with Emmy-winning star Hannah Waddingham as she welcomes special guests for a musical extravaganza at the London Coliseum. This was truly a family affair for Ms. Waddingham. She was joined by her 8-year-old daughter and is a love letter to her mother. Her mother, Melodie Kelly, was an opera singer and Waddingham says she essentially spent her childhood at the Coliseum
As a huge Ted Lasso fan and even bigger fan of Christmas musical specials, ala Andy Williams Christmas specials of yesteryear, this did not disappoint. If you love Ted Lasso, you will be in for a treat with the addition of Juno Temple, Phil Dunster, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Nick Mohammed, James Lance, Kola Bokinni, Billy Harris, Toheeb Jimoh, and yes even Jason Sudekis joining Ms. Waddingham.
If you want to watch this old-timey feeling Christmas special, you can catch it on the Apple TV plus streaming service. Many of the famous guests were announced prior to the special’s release. Boy, were we surprised when Jason Sudeikis showed up at the show’s end.
“I went to Jason and said, ‘Is there a world in which we can do a thing where you are doffing your cap at the end and I can say thank you to you for affording me this glorious platform?'” Waddingham told Entertainment Weekly.
As a fan of the hit Apple TV + show, Ted Lasso, we were very aware of Waddingham’s musical prowess when she sang, “Let It Go” in one episode. This special pared her with the incomparable Leslie Odom Jr., Luke Evans, and Sam Ryder and we were thrilled. Having seen Leslie Odom Jr. in his holiday concert in Atlanta in 2019, we couldn’t have been more thrilled. He is truly a national treasure.
