Disney+ Live Show Earns Elton John an Emmy Completing the EGOT. The 75th Annual Emmy Awards are wrapping up right now on FOX, and the big news coming out is Elton John has become the official 19th person in entertainment history to win the EGOT.

We got to see Mr. John perform many years ago at the old Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia with Billy Joel, and of course, we loved every second of it. So watching the farewell concert was bittersweet. Our love for his music, his heritage, and his kind and giving spirit will always be around, even if he does not tour the US again.

“Tonight is a testament to the power of the arts and the joy that it brings to all our lives,” John said in a statement.

EGOT is the acronym for earning an award from each major awards division. An Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and a Tony award.

Global superstar Elton John made music history with “Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium,” his final North American concert, which was live-streamed exclusively on Disney+ earlier this year to massive success.

John embarked on his journey toward EGOT by securing a Grammy victory in 1987. He clinched the award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group for the collaborative rendition of “That’s What Friends Are For” alongside Dionne Warwick, Elton John, Gladys Knight & Stevie Wonder.

This initial triumph marked the beginning of a series of successes, as he went on to claim four more Grammy Awards. In 1995, John earned an Oscar for Best Original Song for “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from The Lion King. Adding to his accolades, the year 2000 witnessed him attaining a Tony Award for his exceptional score in Aida. The culmination of his EGOT achievement occurred this evening, as he secured an Emmy win for Best Live Variety Special.

Elton John took to the stage tonight (November 20) at Dodger Stadium, but he wasn’t just performing for the thousands in attendance. Sir Elton’s final show in North America was livestreamed on Disney+ marking the first time the platform has presented a live global event.
