Pirates of the Caribbean 6 Rumor: Golden Globe and Emmy Award Winner Ayo Edebiri Replacing Johnny Depp? I hate dealing with rumors, but this one is too good to pass up. Pirates 6 is believed to be a female-led movie with a focus on a younger cast of pirates looking for hidden treasure.
The franchise has grossed over $4.5 billion worldwide; it is the 16th-highest-grossing film series of all time and is the first film franchise to produce two or more movies that grossed over $1 billion. So fans are clamoring for any information.
The Hollywood Handle is reporting:
“The upcoming female-led ‘PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN’ movie is still in the works at Disney. Ayo Edebiri is being eyed to star as a character named Anne. They want a younger cast of pirates looking for a hidden treasure.”

In 2020, Variety announced that Disney had plans for two distinct reboots of Pirates of the Caribbean. One of these projects was set to feature a prominent female ensemble, with Margot Robbie in a leading role.
Margot responded in Variety in 2022: “We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led – not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story – which we thought would have been really cool,” she told the magazine. “But I guess they [Disney] don’t want to do it.”
Now it looks like the news is reporting Ayo Edebiri, who is coming off the major success of FX’s The Bear, where she won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical Series or Comedy and Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 2024.
It is being reported that Ayo Edebiri is going to play a character named Anne, who is said to be based on real-life pirate Anne Bonny.
“If Disney came to you with $300 million and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a Pirates of the Caribbean film?”
To which, Johnny Depp simply replied: “That is true.”
There has been no official statement, and until there is we will put this in the rumor column. Needless to say, we think this would be a smart move. We are just waiting impatiently for a new Pirates movie, so any information that leaks out we devour!
