Imagineer’s Take the First Plunge Down ‘Tiana’s Bayou Adventure’ in Disney World. For the first time in over a year, humans were spotted going down the 40 foot drop at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure here in the Magic Kingdom.

Last January 2023 was the final drop for guests at Splash Mountain in Disney World, The Walt Disney Company had decided it was time for the beloved ride to close for a major retheming and refurbishment. Gone was the old Splash Mountain, in is the new Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

With Princess Tiana at the helm, this new attraction “digs a little deeper” into her story after the events of the Walt Disney Animation Studios film “The Princess and the Frog.” It is Mardi Gras season at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and the bayou will light up for a journey full of music, Mama Odie’s magic, and a whole boatful – log-full? – of new friends, in preparation for a celebration where everyone’s welcome.

We have been watching the process since January, and have seen the removal of Splash Mountain. We watched as the old signage, and theming was taking out. We watched the removal of the old mountain top.

We have been there to see the new Southern Salt Dome Company take over the mountain, the swamps flood in, the beautiful tiara topped water tower construction, the amazing new weather vein installed, Mama Odie’s juju theming. All the time waiting for the day Disney says the opening date. We have waited excitedly.

For weeks, we have seen reports of the logs that carry the guests through the attraction being tested. We have seen the logs sitting at the end of the drop. We just have not visually seen it with our own eyes. Y’all have no clue how frustrating that is, considering we do not rely on others to do the work for us. We try and get the images ourselves.

What makes it not unexpected is, the attraction has not had any changes to the actual track layout, and it should be in the same good condition Disney upholds. What makes this seem rather fast is we originally thought the ride would open at the end of 2024, only to be surprised when Disney announced a summer of 2024 opening last month.

This is great because Disney has taken a lot of grief from certain blogs and fan sites about how every construction project takes too long.

Dreams Come True in the Bayou

Join Princess Tiana and jazz-loving alligator Louis on their journey through a shimmering bayou as they prepare for a spirited celebration during Mardi Gras season. Along the way, you’ll see familiar faces and make new friends as you’re brought into the next chapter of Tiana’s inspiring story.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is scheduled to open in Magic Kingdom park at Walt Disney World Resort in summer 2024.
