The Summer I Turned Pretty is a Prime Video series based on the books by Jenny Han. It’s the story of Belly and her summers with her mom, brother, and their friends.
The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han is about Isabel “Belly” Conklin, who spends her summers at Cousins Beach with her family and her mother’s best friend’s sons, Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher. The story is told from Belly’s perspective and includes flashbacks to summers from her childhood through age 14.
In the summer that Belly turns 16, she has blossomed into a beautiful young woman and both boys notice the change in her appearance. Belly has always been in love with Conrad and has always been friends with Jeremiah, but she starts to develop feelings for both brothers and must decide who she wants to be with. Belly tries to ignore her crush on Conrad but soon begins to pursue a relationship with Cam.
The book also explores the difficulties of growing up and first love, and how events from previous summers have impacted Belly’s connection with the boys. Belly discovers the importance of taking chances and that change is inevitable.
The Summer I Turned Pretty was published on May 5, 2009, by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers and is 276 pages long. It has also been adapted into a TV series, with season 2 premiering on July 14, 2023, and season 3 renewed before the end of that season.
The series is a huge hit for the streaming service Prime Video. The show stars Lola Tung as Belly, Gavin Casalegno as Jeremiah, Christopher Briney as Conrad, Rain Spencer as Taylor, Sean Kaufman as Steven, Elsie Fisher as Skye, Jackie Chung as Laurel, and Rachel Blanchard as Susannah.
